XL2001: Validation Is Removed When You Use List Wizard to Move List (270096)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel 2001 for Mac
This article was previously published under Q270096 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Excel 2001, when you use the List Wizard on the List toolbar to move a list that contains data type validation (such as currency), you receive the following alert message:
This list contains data validation that refers
to other cells on the sheet in its
constraints. Moving the list to another
sheet will remove this data validation.
Continue?
If you click OK, the validation is removed from the new list. The data type that you specified is still in the new list, however you are not prevented from entering data in the list other than the data type that you specified.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if a list contains a field with a specified data type (validation), and you use the List Wizard to do either of the following: - Move the list from the source worksheet to another.
-or-
- Use the list as the source of a list sheet.
This behavior does not occur if you use a cut-and-paste or a drag-and-drop operation to move the list containing validation to a new worksheet.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, use the Cut and Paste commands to move your list to a new worksheet. Or, to drag the list to a different worksheet, select the list, hold down the COMMAND key, and then drag the list over a sheet tab.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Excel 2001 for Mac.
