Works 6: Installation Seems to Cause the Computer to Stop Responding (269987)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Works 6

This article was previously published under Q269987

SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Works 6, the installation progress bar may stop moving, and the computer seems to stop responding (hang).

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you install Works 6 on a computer that only meets the minimum system requirements for the program, for example, a computer with a Pentium 120-MHz processor and 64 megabytes (MB) of random access memory (RAM).

MORE INFORMATION

The computer does not actually stop responding. On a computer with the specifications described in the "Cause" section, it can take nearly 7 minutes for Internet Explorer 5.5 to be installed (or replace Internet Explorer 5), and then another 12 to 13 minutes for the Works Clip Art database to be installed.

While any given component of the Works 6 package (Works 6, Internet Explorer, and Works Clip Art) is being installed, the installation progress bar stops moving until the installation of that component is complete.

After the installation process is complete, Works runs as expected.
