Magic School Bus: Slow Performance with Network Installation (269804)

SYMPTOMS

When you run Microsoft Scholastic's The Magic School Bus in Concert or Microsoft Scholastic's The Magic School Bus Lands on Mars from a shared CD-ROM drive over your network, you may experience any of the following symptoms:
  • Sound playback in the program may pause or skip.
  • Animation playback in the program may pause or skip.
  • Scene transitions may be unexpectedly slow.
  • You may experience other symptoms of slow performance.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you used a Universal Naming Convention (UNC) network path to the shared CD-ROM drive to install The Magic School Bus in Concert or The Magic School Bus Lands on Mars.

When you install The Magic School Bus in Concert or The Magic School Bus Lands on Mars from a shared CD-ROM drive over your network, you must map a network drive to the shared CD-ROM drive before you install the program.

RESOLUTION

To prevent this issue from occurring, map a network drive to the shared CD-ROM drive, and then install the program from the mapped network drive.

To resolve this issue, uninstall the program, map a network drive to the shared CD-ROM drive, and then reinstall the program from the mapped network drive. To do this:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. Click Scholastic's The Magic School Bus in Concert or Scholastic's The Magic School Bus
    Lands on Mars
    , and then click Add/Remove.
  4. Follow the instructions on the screen to remove the program.
  5. Right-click Start, and then click Explore.
  6. On the Tools menu, click Map Network Drive.
  7. Note the drive letter in the Drive box.
  8. In the Path box, type the following line

    \\server\share

    where server is the name of the server on which the program CD-ROM is located, and share is the name of the shared folder in which the program CD-ROM is located.
  9. Click to select the Reconnect at logon check box, and then click OK.
  10. Click Start, and then click Run.
  11. In the Open box, type drive:\, where drive is the drive letter of the network drive that you mapped in steps 5 through 9, and then click OK.
  12. If necessary, browse to the folder on the mapped network drive that contains the program CD-ROM.
  13. Double-click the MSBCAuto.exe file or the MSBMAuto.exe file, and then follow the instructions on the screen to reinstall the program.
