Works Suite 2001: Picture It! Express Does Not Work After You Install Picture It! Publishing (268760)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to upgrade to Microsoft Works Suite 2001 from Works Suite 2000, you may not be able to install Microsoft Picture It! Publishing.

When you do succeed in installing Picture It! Publishing, Picture It! Express does not start.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you install Picture It! Express as part of the Works 2000 Suite installation, and you then install Picture It! Publishing as part of the Works 2001 Suite installation.

Picture It! Express is not completely removed by the Works 2001 installation program.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  • If you want to continue to use Picture It! Express, do not install Picture It! Publishing when you install Works Suite 2001; instead, follow the instructions of the Installation Wizard to not install a specific program.
  • If you want to use Picture It! Publishing, remove Picture It! Express before you install Works Suite 2001.

    To remove Picture It! Express, follow these steps:

    1. Insert Works Suite 2000 CD1.
    2. Click Start, and then click Run.
    3. In the Open box, type

      drive:\setup.exe

      where drive is the letter of your CD-ROM drive. Click OK.
    4. On the Welcome back screen, click Remove.
    5. Click Microsoft Picture It! Express.
    6. When the warning message appears, click Continue.
    7. Follow the instructions of the Setup Wizard to remove Picture It! Express.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Works Suite 2001.
