Optional Component Manager Files Are Not Uninstalled When You Uninstall Service Pack 1 (265814)

SYMPTOMS

When you install Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 (SP1) on a computer that is running Windows 2000, install a program such as the Print Services for UNIX component that requires files from the SP1 CD-ROM, and then uninstall SP1, the Print Services for UNIX component may not work.

When you use the Add/Remove Programs tool to remove the component, both the SP1 files that were required to install the program and the Optional Component Manager (OCM) files are not uninstalled.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the files for the Print Services for UNIX component are not included in the Spuninst.inf file in the uninstall folder. The files for the Print Services for UNIX component are not included in the Spuninst.inf file because the Spuninst.inf file is created when you install SP1, before you install the new component.

MORE INFORMATION

You may need to uninstall SP1 to return your operating system to working condition if you encounter problems with SP1. If you install SP1, install a program, and then uninstall SP1, the program may not run correctly.
