Movie Maker Generates Error When You Click Record (265582)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition

This article was previously published under Q265582

SYMPTOMS

You may receive either a blue-screen error, or a page fault error when you click Record in Microsoft Windows Movie Maker.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the device driver for the currently-selected capture device is not compatible with DirectShow. When you click Record, DirectShow accesses the selected video capture device driver, and then generates a preview image.

RESOLUTION

If possible, use the driver for your capture device that is included with Windows Millennium Edition (Me). If that is not possible, obtain the updated software that is compatible with DirectShow from the hardware manufacturer.

WORKAROUND

Use the software included with your capture device to record the content as a file supported by Windows Movie Maker. Import the file into Windows Movie Maker for editing.
