Error Message Occurs in Windows Movie Maker When Clicking Record (265580)

SYMPTOMS

When you open Microsoft Windows Movie Maker and click Record on the File menu, you may receive the following error message:
An error has occurred with your capture device. Check that it is configured properly and try again. If necessary, refer to the documentation for the capture device for more information

CAUSE

This issue can occur when you use True Color (24 bit) or True Color (32 bit) settings with a Matrox Marvel G200. The G200 drivers are not fully compatible with DirectShow.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, change the display color depth settings to either High Color (16 bit) or 256 Colors. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Display.
  2. Click the Settings tab.
  3. In the Colors box, click either High Color (16 bit) or 256 Colors.
  4. Click OK.
