The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Works 6
  • Microsoft Works Suite 2001

This article was previously published under Q265121

SYMPTOMS

When you open a worksheet that was created in an earlier version of Works Spreadsheet, protected cells in the worksheet are no longer protected.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because Works 6 and Works Suite 2001 no longer support cell protection in Works Spreadsheet.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, protect the entire worksheet. To do this, follow these steps:

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.

  1. On the File menu in Works Spreadsheet, click Save.
  2. In the Save As dialog box, type a file name in the File name box, and then click Save.
  3. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows Explorer.
  4. Locate your Works Spreadsheet file.
  5. Right-click the file, and then click Properties.
  6. In the Properties dialog box, click the General tab.
  7. Under Attributes, click to select Read-only, and then click OK.
The entire worksheet is now protected. You cannot make changes to the worksheet unless you click to clear the Read-only check box.
