SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade to Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me) from Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98 or Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition, the Epson TWAIN scanner stops working. When you attempt to use the scanner, you receive the following error messages:
Scanner or Scanner handler error.
TWAIN internal error. The device encountered an internal error. Please try again.

CAUSE

The Epson TWAIN scanner device drivers are not compatible with the TWAIN 1.7 standard. Windows Me uses the TWAIN Working Group 1.7 TWAIN files. This affects all models of Epson TWAIN scanners.

RESOLUTION

Epson provides updated device drivers specifically for Windows Me for their TWAIN scanners. To work around this issue, the Windows 2000 scanner drivers are portable and may be used for the scanner in Windows Me.
