When you start the Microsoft DirectX Diagnostic tool (Dxdiag.exe) on a laptop computer that has a video adapter that supports a secondary display, you may receive the following error message:
Error: Problem getting extra display info, result code = 0x88760249 (Can't create DC)
CAUSE
This issue can occur for either of the following reasons:
- You have a laptop computer with a secondary video adapter and you do not have an external monitor connected to the secondary video adapter.
- You have a laptop computer with a secondary video adapter and the secondary video adapter is disabled.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, you must connect a monitor to the external display connector and enable the secondary video adapter before you run Dxdiag.exe. The secondary video adapter must be enabled for Dxdiag.exe to test its DirectDraw and Direct3D capabilities and also to notify the primary video adapter of the need for a video memory allocation. Note that you must connect the monitor before you enable the secondary video adapter.
