PPT2000: PowerPoint Files Saved in 95 or 97 File Format Are Not Indexed by Index Server (264307)

This article was previously published under Q264307 SYMPTOMS When you save a presentation in the PowerPoint 97-2000 & 95 Presentation or PowerPoint 95 format, Microsoft Index Server does not correctly index the file.
CAUSE In Microsoft PowerPoint 2000, when you save a presentation
in a file format for an earlier version, PowerPoint does not save information
that is needed for Index Server to index the file properly.
RESOLUTIONA supported fix is now available
from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is
described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing
this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if
you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you
wait for the next Office 2000 service pack that contains this hotfix. To
resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to

WORKAROUND To work around this problem, use either of the following
methods:
- Open the files in Microsoft PowerPoint 95, and save them in
the default PowerPoint 95 format.
-or- - Open the files in a later version of PowerPoint, and save
in that version's default format.

has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed
at the beginning of this article.
