Tape Devices Are Not Listed in the Add New Hardware Wizard (264271)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to add a tape backup device to your computer, you notice that the listing for Tape Drive Controllers is not present.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs by design if you have not installed Microsoft Backup on your computer. Tape Drive Controllers are only listed if you have Microsoft Backup installed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, install Microsoft Backup. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. Click the Windows Setup tab.
  4. Click to select the System Tools option, and then click Details.
  5. Click to select Backup, and then click OK.
  6. Click OK again, and then follow the directions provided.
