The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft PowerPoint 97 for Windows
  • Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q264053

SYMPTOMS

When you paste a chart from Microsoft Excel into Microsoft PowerPoint, the chart's fonts are resized.

CAUSE

By default, all text in Excel charts is scalable. When you bring scalable text into PowerPoint, it loses between 0.25 and 1 point of size.

RESOLUTION

Because text scaling is an option, you can turn it off by using a check box. To turn off text scaling before you copy the chart into PowerPoint, follow these steps:
  1. Open the chart in Excel.
  2. Double-click one of the text items.
  3. On the Font tab, click to clear the Auto scale check box.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Repeat steps 2-4 for each text item.
  6. Save your changes to the workbook.
  7. Copy the chart, and then paste it onto the PowerPoint slide.
