BUG: Refresh of Cubes From DTS Does Not Refresh Private Dimensions (264017)

SYMPTOMS

The current Data Transformation Services (DTS) OLAP refresh task does not refresh private dimensions and there is not an option available for refreshing private dimensions in DTS. If dimension members are changed in a private dimension table and corresponding fact records inserted into the fact table, refreshing the cube data from DTS fails. The error message that occurs is similar to this:
Error = -2147221298 (800400CE) Error string: Error source: CubeName

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem either:
  • Process the cube instead of refreshing it in DTS.

    -or-

  • Refresh the cube directly from the OLAP Manager instead of DTS.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in SQL Server OLAP Services version 7.0.
This is not an issue with Analysis Services version 8.0.
