This article was previously published under Q263830 SYMPTOMS
When you use a Microsoft Works 2000 Database as a Mail Merge data source, and one of the data fields contains numbers, and some of the numbers are negative, the negative numbers may merge with incorrect positive values.
This problem occurs with the Works 2000 Word Processor and Microsoft Word.
NOTE: Only numbers between -1 and -127 inclusive are affected.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because Works 2000 incorrectly adds 256 to negative numbers between -1 and -127 inclusive when the Database is used as a Mail Merge data source.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem in Works 2000, send the merge results to a new document, and then edit the records to correct the merge data.
To send the Merge results to a new document in the Works 2000 Word Processor, follow these steps:
- On the File menu, click Print.
- Under Mail Merge Print Settings, click to select the Send merge result to a new document check box, and then click OK.
To send the Merge results to a new document in Word, follow these steps:
- On the Mail Merge toolbar, click Merge to New Document.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
