Money: Cannot Delete Product or Service Item (263516)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to delete a product or a service item, you may receive any of the following messages:

Item cannot be deleted because there are invoices that reference it.

Item cannot be deleted because there are invoices and/or time items that reference it.

Item cannot be deleted because there are invoices and/or inventory adjustments that reference it.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the item that you want to delete is referenced in one of the following places in Money:
  • Inventory adjustments
  • Invoices
  • Time items

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use the appropriate method for your version of Money.

Note Before you delete an item, make sure that the item does not affect the accuracy of your business records.

Money 2001 Deluxe & Business

To remove an item from the list of products and services in Money 2001 Deluxe & Business:
  1. On the Money navigation bar, click Business, and then click Products & Services.
  2. In the left pane, click View inventory transactions under Common Tasks.
  3. Click to select each transaction that contains the item that you want to delete, and then click Delete at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Click Done at the bottom of the screen.
  5. After you delete all the references to the item, click Go to products & services list in the left pane under Common Tasks.
  6. Click to select the item that you want to delete, and then click Delete at the bottom of the screen.
  7. Click Done at the bottom of the screen.

Money 2000 Business and Personal

To remove an item from the list of products and services in Money 2000 and later:
  1. On the Money navigation bar, click Business, and then click See list of products & services under Other business tasks.
  2. In the left pane, click View inventory transactions under Common Tasks.
  3. Click to select each transaction that contains the item that you want to delete, and then click Delete at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Click Done at the bottom of the screen.
  5. After you delete all of the references to the item, click Go to products & services list in the left pane under Common Tasks.
  6. Click to select the item that you want to delete, and then click Delete at the bottom of the screen.
  7. Click Done at the bottom of the screen.

Money 99 Personal and Business

To remove an item from the list of products and services in Money 99 Personal and Business:
  1. On the Money navigation bar, click Business, and then click Products and Services in the left pane.
  2. Click the item that you want to delete, and then click Delete at the bottom of the screen.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
