MOD2000: Errors When You Use Partial Replicas with Indirect or Internet Replication (262833)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office 2000 Developer
This article was previously published under Q262833 SYMPTOMS
When you synchronize partial replicas with Internet or indirect replication, you may experience the following symptoms:
- Data that should have been transferred from a full replica to a partial replica is not transferred correctly, but you receive no error message.
- A client that is synchronizing by using Internet replication receives one of the following two errors:
Internal Internet Failure Internet handle failure - When you are synchronizing by using Indirect replication, you receive the following error message:
The requested synchronization between <path to database on the initiating synchronizer> and <name of other synchronizer> is complete, but a problem occurred during synchronization. For more information, open <path to database on the initiating synchronizer>, right click on <name of other synchronizer> on the map, and click View Synchronization History.
If you try to view the synchronization history, you receive the following error message:
An error occurred while using this member in the replica set;UNKNOWN REASON (-3600)
RESOLUTION
To recover from this error, synchronize the partial replica to the full replica by using direct replication. Internet or indirect synchronization will then complete properly on the next synchronization unless it again has data that has to be sent to the partial replica.
Microsoft recommends the following workarounds to prevent this error from occurring:
- If you must use indirect or Internet synchronization, use full replicas with queries set up to give users only the data that they need.
- If possible, use direct synchronization. However, this is not recommended for users who are connecting over a wide area network (WAN) because of the greater possibility that corruption may occur.
