The List of Groups or Users Are Slow to Appear (262518)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to add a domain user account to the access control list (ACL) of a folder, it may take 20 minutes or more for the list of users and groups to appear.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if your computer is a member of a Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 domain.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, download and install the most recent Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack. For more information about how to do so, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use the Advanced Security Settings dialog box to add the user to the ACL. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Start Microsoft Windows Explorer, and then locate the folder for which you want to change the permissions.
  2. Right-click the folder, and then click Properties.
  3. In the Folder name Properties dialog box, where Folder name is the folder to which you want to add a user, click Advanced.
  4. In the Advanced Security Settings dialog box, click Add.
  5. In the Enter the object name to select box, type the name of the user who you want to add, and then click OK.
  6. Click OK to close each of the folder properties dialog boxes.
