When you try to use the ping command with the -f switch within the Interix shell, you may receive the following error message:
Operation not permitted
CAUSE
Ping checks to determine if you are the root user, which is not possible on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows NT or Microsoft Windows 2000.
RESOLUTIONMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
