Start Menu or Shortcut Items Appear Capitalized After Restoration (261690)

SYMPTOMS

When some of the commands on the Start menu, or some of the icons on the desktop are displayed with all capital letters, one of the following two issues has occured:

You have used the System Restore tool.

-or-

You have upgraded from one Microsoft Windows product to Windows Millennium (Me).

CAUSE

This problem can occur after you run System Restore. During Windows start up, System Restore renames some icons in uppercase.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, rename the icons and use lowercase text.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
