Sign-Up Process Is Not Started Automatically After Logon on Windows NT 4.0 (260879)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer Administration Kit 5.5
This article was previously published under Q260879 SYMPTOMS
When you install an Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK) version 5.5 sign-up package on a Microsoft Windows NT 4.0-based computer, the sign-up process is not invoked automatically.
CAUSE
When you install the package on a Windows NT 4.0-based computer, the Internet Connection Wizard prompts the user to disable file and printer sharing on the TCP/IP connection that will be used to access the Internet.
The following prompt appears:
Internet Connection Wizard: File and Printer Sharing is running on the same TCP/IP connection you will use to access the Internet. Other users on the Internet might be able to access your files. You cannot continue unless you disable File and Printer Sharing.
Windows will now disable File and Printer Sharing on the TCP/IP connection to the Internet.
Clicking OK in this dialog box forces a system settings change, which requires a reboot.
WORKAROUND
Manually start Internet Explorer after the computer restarts.
