MORE INFORMATION

Minimum and recommended hardware needed for Proxy Server 2.0:

Intel and Compatible Computers

  • A 486/33 MHz or faster Central Processing Unit (CPU), or Pentium or Pentium PRO CPU.
  • A minimum of 125 megabytes (MB) of available hard disk space.

RISC-Based Computers

  • A RISC-based CPU that is compatible with Microsoft Windows NT Server version 4.0.
  • A minimum of 160 MB of available hard disk space.
  • 24 MB of random-access memory (RAM).
  • A CD-ROM drive.
  • VGA, Super VGA, or video adapter that is compatible with Microsoft Windows NT Server version 4.0.
The following list describes the CPU, disk space, and RAM requirements:

Minimum

CPU: Intel 486 or faster CPU, also supports Alpha AXP.
Disk space: At least 10 MB of available disk space for Microsoft Proxy Server after Windows NT Server has been installed. For caching, adequate free disk space for the Web Proxy cache (100 MB and 5 MB for each Web Proxy service client).
RAM: At least 24 MB (32 MB for RISC-based systems).

Recommended for Small Businesses (1-300 Computers)

CPU: Intel Pentium 133 MHz CPU.
Disk space: For caching, adequate free disk space for the Web Proxy cache (from 250 MB to 2 GB of disk space).
RAM: At least 32 MB.

Recommended for Medium Businesses (300-2,000 Computers)

CPU: Intel Pentium 166 MHz CPU.
Disk space: For caching, adequate free disk space for the Web Proxy cache (from 2-4 gigabytes (GB) of disk space).
RAM: At least 64 MB.

Recommended for Large Businesses (2,000+ Computers)

CPU: Intel Pentium 166 MHz CPU. Set up a Proxy Server array with at least one server for every 2,000 computers.
Disk space: For caching, adequate free disk space for the Web Proxy cache (from 2-4 GB of disk space per array member).
RAM: At least 64 MB per array member.

Recommended for Internet Service Provider with 1,000+ Simultaneous Dial-Up Users

CPU: Intel Pentium 166-MHz processor. Set up a Proxy Server array with at least one server for every 1,000 dial-up users.
Disk space: For caching, adequate free disk space for the Web Proxy cache (from 2-4 GB of disk space per array member).
RAM: At least 64 MB per array member.
