This article describes the maximum number of characters for an .ins file name to be used during the signup process.

When you use a signup server that sends an .ins file to clients that sign on to your service, do not use more than 29 characters in the .ins file name.
This is a limitation for Microsoft Windows NT-based clients. This limitation does not apply to clients that are running Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, or Microsoft Windows 2000.
If the .ins file name is longer than 29 characters, Windows NT-based clients that run the signup process are not branded correctly with the information from the .ins file. The connection is dropped correctly, but no branding is applied.
