Internet keyboard: Incorrect e-mail program starts when you press the Mail hot key (260248)

SYMPTOMS

When you press the Mail hot key on the Microsoft Internet keyboards that are listed in the "Applies To" section, the e-mail program that you assigned to the Mail hot key may not start.

The e-mail program that is set in the Internet Options dialog box in Microsoft Internet Explorer may start instead.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if both of the following conditions are true:
  • The Internet Explorer window is currently the active window.
  • You have upgraded to Internet Explorer version 5.01.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, restore Internet Explorer 5:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. Double-click Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 and Internet Tools.
  4. Click Restore the previous Windows Configuration, and then click OK.
  5. When you are prompted to resart the computer, do so.
Note These steps may require you to reinstall Microsoft Outlook Express.

To reinstall Outlook Express, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. Click the Windows Setup tab.
  4. Under Components, click to select the Outlook Express check box.
  5. Click OK.

    Note You may be prompted to insert your Microsoft Windows installation CD.
  6. When the installation is finished, close Control Panel.
