PUB2000: Error Starting Publisher 2000 on a Windows 2000 Terminal Services Client (259666)

SYMPTOMS

When you start Microsoft Publisher 2000 on a client computer that is connected to a computer that is running Terminal Services in Microsoft Windows 2000, you may receive the following error message:
An error occured and this feature is no longer functioning properly. Please contact the system administrator.
If you click Cancel, Publisher 2000 starts in the usual fashion.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you install Publisher 2000 while Terminal Services in Windows 2000 is configured to run in Remote Administration mode, and the computer is configured to run Terminal Services in Application Server mode at a later time.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods:
  • Configure Windows 2000 Terminal Services to run in Remote Administration mode.

  • Uninstall Publisher 2000 (or Microsoft Office 2000 Disc 2), and then reinstall Publisher 2000 by using the Microsoft Office 2000 Resource Kit guidelines for installing Office 2000 Disc 2 on a Windows Terminal Server.
