SYMPTOMS

When you use a modem to establish a dial-on-demand (DOD) connection to a Windows 2000-based computer that is running Routing and Remote Access Service (RRAS), you may not be able to reach an external network on the first attempt. For example, if you use Microsoft Internet Explorer to start a DOD connection to browse an external Web site, you may receive an error message stating that the site cannot be reached.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if you try to obtain access to an external network while the DOD connection is in the process of being established.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, wait until the DOD connection is established, and then try again.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
