If you attempt to use a template that was created in a previous version
of Microsoft Works to create a new Works Database, Works Spreadsheet, or
Works Word Processor document in Microsoft Works, you receive the
following error message:
Works cannot open filename. The file may be in
use by another application, the file format may not be supported by any
of the installation converters, or the file may be corrupt.
RESOLUTION
This behavior occurs because you are unable to use a template that was
created in a previous version of Works to create a new Works Database or
Works Spreadsheet document in Works.
To use a template that was created in a previous version of Works to
create a new Works Word Processor document, change the file extension for
the Works Word Processor template file from .wpt to .wps. To do this:
- Click Start, point to Programs, and then click
Windows Explorer.
- Browse to the Works Word Processor template that you want to
use.
- Right-click the Works Word Processor template file, and then
click Rename.
- Press the END key, press the BACKSPACE key once, type
s, and then press ENTER.
- Quit Windows Explorer.
