The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional

This article was previously published under Q259236

SYMPTOMS

When you try to display shares on a Windows 2000 host that is using Direct Connection, Windows 98 generates a "host not found" error message.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if the Primary Network Logon is set to the Windows Family Logon.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, change the Primary Network Logon to Client for Microsoft Networks, and then restart your computer. If that option is not available, add the Client for Microsoft Networks.

MORE INFORMATION

The Microsoft Family Logon doesn't include a redirector that can view shares. To view and connect to shares on any Microsoft computer from Windows 98, the Client for Microsoft Networks needs to be the Primary Network Logon.
