Problems Registering Cluster Network Names with Dynamic DNS (259179)

SYMPTOMS

If you configure the network adapters for Domain Name System (DNS) servers on a server cluster, there are some issues that can prevent the registration of names with a dynamic DNS server.

RESOLUTION

If network names that are offered by the cluster are not registered or updated with the configured DNS information, examine the network adapter and DNS configuration. When you are troubleshooting dynamic DNS issues with a server cluster, check the following items:
  • The adapters that are used for the private interconnect between nodes should not be configured with a default gateway address.
  • Make sure that the DNS server is configured for dynamic updates.
  • Make sure that the adapter that corresponds to the network name resource (and IP address) has DNS addresses.
NOTE: In Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, DNS addresses can be specified only once for TCP/IP. In Windows 2000, DNS addresses are specified for each network adapter.
