SYMPTOMS

After you use the Regional Settings tool in Control Panel to specify a short date format of MM/dd/yy, some programs may not display or recognize dates in that format.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if there is a non-zero iDate value entry in the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International\

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To resolve this issue, delete the iDate value in the following registry key, or set it to 0 (zero):

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International\

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International\iDate=0 (English mdy)
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International\iDate=1 (German dmy)
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International\iDate=2 (ymd)
