To install and calibrate a SideWinder Standard joystick on one of the following operating systems
  • Microsoft Windows 95
  • Microsoft Windows 98
  • Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
  • Microsoft Windows 2000
follow these steps:
  1. Shut down and turn off the computer.
  2. Connect the SideWinder Standard joystick to the 15-pin game port on the back of your computer.

    NOTE: Some network adapters use a 15-pin AUI port that resembles the standard game port. Do not connect the joystick to a 15-pin network AUI port. If you do so, you may damage the joystick or the network card.
  3. Start the computer.
  4. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  5. Double-click Game Controllers, Gaming Devices, Gaming Options, or Joystick.
  6. Click Add.
  7. Click 2-button Flight Yoke with Throttle or 3-axis, 2-button joystick, and then click OK.
  8. Use the appropriate method to calibrate and test your game controller.

    NOTE: For the device to be calibrated correctly, you must follow the calibration instructions exactly. Do not be concerned about the graphic display and how the graphics correspond to the joystick movement.

    If you use the Game Controllers tool in Control Panel:

    1. On the General tab, click the game controller you want to use, and then click Properties.
    2. On the Settings tab, click Calibrate.
    3. Follow the instructions on the screen to calibrate your game controller.
    4. Click the Test tab, and then test your game controller to verify that it functions properly.
    5. Click OK, and then click OK again.
    If you use the Gaming Devices tool in Control Panel:

    1. In the Device list, click the game controller you want to use.
    2. Click Settings, and then click Calibrate.
    3. Follow the instructions on the screen to calibrate your game controller.
    4. Click Test, and then test your game controller to verify that it functions properly.
    5. Click OK.
    If you use the Joystick tool in Control Panel:
    1. In the Joystick selection box, click the game controller you want to use.
    2. Click Calibrate, and then follow the instructions on the screen to calibrate your game controller.
    3. Click Finish.
    4. Click Test, and then test your game controller to verify that it functions properly.
    5. Click OK.
  9. Close Control Panel.
To install a SideWinder Standard joystick on a Microsoft Windows NT 4.0-based computer:
  1. Shut down and turn off the computer.
  2. Connect the SideWinder Standard joystick to the 15-pin game port on the back of your computer.

    NOTE: Some network adapters use a 15-pin AUI port that resembles the standard game port. Do not connect the joystick to a 15-pin network AUI port. If you do so, you may damage the joystick or the network card.
  3. Start the computer.

If Microsoft Windows does not detect the SideWinder Standard joystick, verify that the joystick is connected to the game port, and then restart the computer.

If you encounter problems when you attempt to calibrate or test the joystick, make sure that the latest version of the sound driver for your sound card or game port card is installed on your computer.

NOTE: The SideWinder Standard joystick is an analog-only joystick.
