To View the Exclusion/Inclusion Rules

To verify the users excluded, and to verify that the exclusion rules definitions are working, follow these steps:

1. Run the MA a second time with the logging detail level set to Level 2.For additional information on how to setting MA logging, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

2. Examine the logs and find the Exclusions. Note that you will see a number beside the word "Exclusion" in brackets:

   Exclusion [20] cn=John Testuser.

   The bracketed number refers to an Exclusion rule set in the templates.
3. Compare the bracketed number with a number in the Exclusion template. To view the exclusion template, follow these steps:
   1. Configure MA
   2. Inclusion and Exclusion
   3. Metadirectory
   4. Exclusion
4. You will see the Exclusion rules each with their own message heading and a number. The number helps you identify which rules are being processed in the logs, for example:

   message 20
   
   $embedded("test", $mv.dn) = T

The message with the same number is the Exclusion rule that is in use. You may need to redefine your Exclusions rules or take a second look at the incoming data. If an Exclusion rule is being processed that you would prefer to have ignored, simply comment the rule with a hash or pound symbol and it will not be processed on the next run of the MA. For example: If you need to further refine you Exclusion rule, you can add an explicit And to the rule by adding additional criteria that the Exclusion rule has to meet.
