SYMPTOMS

When you move one of the Microsoft pointing devices that are listed in the "Applies to" section extremely rapidly, the movement may not be correctly recognized by the Microsoft IntelliPoint software.

For example, the pointer may briefly appear to move in the direction in which you moved the pointing device. However, the pointer remains at or near the position in which it was located before you moved the pointing device.

CAUSE

This issue occurs if the pointing device is not tracking movement correctly.

RESOLUTION

You may be able to work around this issue by enabling the pointer acceleration feature of the IntelliPoint software:

Microsoft Windows XP

  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Mouse.
  3. Click the Pointer Options tab, and then under Motion, move the slider to adjust the pointer speed accordingly.
  4. Make sure that the Enhance pointer precision check box is selected.
  5. Click OK, and then close Control Panel.
Repeat these steps to determine which setting works best.

Microsoft Windows 98 and Microsoft Windows 95

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Mouse.
  3. Click the Pointer Options tab.
  4. Under Pointer Speed, click Advanced.
  5. Click to select the Pointer acceleration check box.
  6. Click Low, and then click OK.
  7. Click OK, and then close Control Panel.
Repeat these steps to select the Medium and High pointer acceleration settings to determine which setting works best.

MORE INFORMATION

You can make additional settings in the Mouse Properties dialog box, which may enhance the use and operation of your mouse. Additional information about these settings is available in the Microsoft Quick Start Guide and the Microsoft Pointing Device Users Guide that came with the IntelliPoint Software.

Note On the desktop, the Microsoft Quick Start Guide is referred to as Mouse Quick Start Guide.
