When you install the Logitech Wheelmouse, it is identified as a Microsoft Intellimouse by Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me).
RESOLUTION
Install MouseWare 8.3 to set up the mouse as a wheelmouse2(ps/2) in Device Manager. However, be aware that if the mouse is removed and detected again, Windows Me automatically defaults to the Microsoft Intellimouse drivers.

The Plug and Play identification reported by the Logitech mouse is the same as the identification for the Microsoft Intellimouse. To modify this behavior, Logitech must obtain its own Vendor ID/Product ID (VID/PID) and provide an information (INF) file so that its device can be uniquely identified and installed with the correct drivers.
