Minimum System Requirements for Microsoft Project 2000

  • Personal computer with a Pentium 75 megahertz (MHz) or higher processor.

  • Microsoft Windows 95 or later operating system, or Microsoft Windows NT Workstation version 4.0 with Service Pack 3 or later, or Microsoft Windows 2000.

  • For Windows 95 or Windows 98: 16 megabytes (MB) of RAM for the operating system, plus an additional 4 MB of RAM for Microsoft Project.

  • For Windows NT Workstation version 4.0 or later or Windows 2000: 32 MB of RAM for the operating system, plus an additional 4 MB of RAM for Microsoft Project. For Windows 2000, 64 MB of RAM is recommended.

  • Available hard-disk space:

    • Typical installation: 107 MB
    • Complete installation: 204 MB

    NOTE: These numbers represent the maximum amount that will be installed. Many of the required files may already reside on the system if you installed Microsoft Office 2000, or if you are running Windows 2000.

  • CD-ROM drive.

  • VGA or higher resolution monitor; Super VGA recommended.

  • Microsoft Mouse, Microsoft IntelliMouse, or compatible pointing device.
Additional items or services required to use certain features:
  • 9,600 baud modem; 14,400 or higher baud recommended.

  • Multimedia computer required to access sound and other multimedia effects.

  • Some Internet functionality may require Internet access and payment of a separate fee to a service provider.

Minimum System Requirements for the Microsoft Project Central Server Installation

  • Windows NT Server version 4.0 with Service Pack 4 or later, or Microsoft Windows 2000 (Server or Professional).

    • If you use Windows NT 4.0, then you also need Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack so that you can install Microsoft Internet Information Server version 4.0.
    • If you use Windows 2000, you must install Microsoft Internet Information Server 5.0, which is shipped with Windows 2000.

    NOTE: If you use Windows NT 4.0, you must install Microsoft Internet Service Manager as an option with Microsoft Internet Information Server 4.0. If you do not have Windows NT Server, you can also use Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack with Windows NT Workstation; however, you will be limited to 10 connections.

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 or later, available on the Microsoft Project 2000 CD. The path for Internet Explorer 5.0 Setup is \IE5\EN\ie5setup.exe.

    NOTE: If you want to use data access pages, you need Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or later, and in addition, an Office 2000 license.

  • Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 or later, Oracle Server 8.0 or later, or Microsoft Data Engine (MSDE). MSDE is included and installed with the Microsoft Project Central server setup. MSDE is installed if it's not already on the system and SQL Server is not installed. Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) version 2.5 is also installed with the Microsoft Project Central server setup if you do not have Windows 2000.

  • Processor: Intel Pentium 200 MHz or higher, or similar processor.

  • Available hard-disk space: 100-150 MB recommended.

  • Memory requirements: 128 MB RAM or more.

    The hard disk and memory requirements are a minimum. Your hard disk and memory requirements may vary depending on your configuration and the options you choose to install.
NOTE: Microsoft Project Central server and Microsoft Project can be installed on the same computer if necessary. Shared components of Microsoft Project Central server and Microsoft Project 2000 are installed in the folder \Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\1033 (or the appropriate folder for the language version you use).
