XFOR: Migrating from GroupWise 5.x to Exchange 2000 May Cause Event 4012: Insufficient Access Rights (258175)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
This article was previously published under Q258175 SYMPTOMS
You have been very careful in preparing your Novell GroupWise post office for migration to Exchange 2000, especially taking care to grant GroupWise proxy permissions to the migration account that the Migration Wizard uses to access each GroupWise mailbox. However, when you migrate users from GroupWise to Exchange 2000, you may receive a the following warning message when the migration is finished:
x GroupWise users did not grant sufficient access rights to the migration account. The list of account names has been recorded in the application event log.
NOTE: x represents the number of migrating users with this problem.
The following event is written to the event log:
Event ID: 4012
Source: MSExchangeMig
The following GroupWise users have not granted sufficient access rights to the migration account.
However, if you look at the destination Exchange 2000 mailbox, where the GroupWise user's data should be migrated to, you find that the user's mail was successfully migrated.
CAUSE
The Migration Wizard performs an account rights collection, and only looks at the first account in the GroupWise mailbox Access list. If someone has granted access to more than one user, the wizard looks at the first user in the Access list, which may not be the migration account. Even so, the Migration Wizard still migrates the data successfully if sufficient rights exist.
WORKAROUND
Confirm that the user mailboxes listed in Event 4012 were actually migrated, and if they were, ignore the error. For future migrations, give full proxy rights to the migration account only before migrating (that is, remove all others from the GroupWise mailbox's access list).
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.
