SUMMARY

This article describes how to publish a Microsoft Publisher Web site to America Online (AOL).

MORE INFORMATION

If you attempt to use Publisher to publish a Web site to AOL, you may need to use the AOL file upload utility. The following steps apply to AOL 4.0, but they should also work with AOL 5.0.

The AOL file upload utility uses a single file transfer method, which means that you must repeat steps 5-10 for each file that you want to transfer to your AOL Web site.

To use the AOL File Transfer utility:
  1. Log in to AOL.
  2. Click Keyword, type myftpspace, and then press ENTER.
  3. Click See my FTP Space.
  4. Click Upload at the bottom of the window.
  5. In the Remote Filename box, type the name of the file that you want to upload.

NOTE: The name you type is the name AOL assigns to the file after it is transferred to your Web site. Make sure you include the 3-character extension. It is important that this name is the same name as the file you are transferring.
  6. Click the Transfer Mode that you want. If the file ends with HTM or HTML, click ASCII, otherwise click Binary.
  7. Click Continue, and then click Select File.
  8. In the Look in box, click My Documents, and then browse to the Publish folder where you store your HTML and image files.

IMPORTANT: Make sure that this file name is the same file name that you typed in the Remote Filename box in step 5.
  9. After you locate and click the file, click Open.
  10. Click Send to transfer the file.
