SUMMARY

This article describes how to configure Proxy Server 2.0 to allow the use of RealPlayer G2 in configurations without direct Internet connectivity.

Server Configuration

  1. Start Internet Service Manager in Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) 3.0 or the Management console in IIS 4.0.
  2. Right-click WinSock Proxy Service, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Service tab.
  4. Click Client Configuration.
  5. Click Client connects to Microsoft WinSock Proxy Server by, and type the NetBIOS name of the proxy server in the Computer Name box.
  6. Click to select the Automatically configure Web browser during client setup check box. The Proxy box should also contain the NetBIOS name of the proxy server. The Port box should contain the correct port number for the proxy server (generally port 80).
  7. Click to select the Configure Web browsers to use Automatic Configuration check box. If you do not have a RealServer inside the proxy firewall, skip to step 8. If you have a RealServer inside the proxy firewall, click Properties. Click to select the Do not use proxy for the following IP addresses check box. Then, fill in the IP address of the RealServer(s) inside the proxy firewall. Click OK, and then click OK.
  8. Click the Protocols tab.
  9. Click the first RealAudio item in the list, and then click Edit. Initial Connection should be set to Port 554, and Type should be set to TCP and Outbound.
  10. Remove all entries in the Port ranges for subsequent connections box.
  11. Click Add, add UDP 6970-32000 Inbound, and then click OK.
  12. Click Add, add TCP 6970-32000 Inbound, and then click OK.
  13. Click the remaining RealAudio item in the list, and then click Edit. Initial Connection should be set to Port 7070 Outbound, and Type should be set to TCP.
  14. Remove all entries in the Port ranges for subsequent connections box.
  15. Click Add, add TCP 6970-7170 Inbound, and then click OK.
  16. Click Add, add UDP 6970-7170 Inbound, and then click OK.

Client Configuration

NOTE: You need to install the Winsock Proxy client on all clients on which you want to use RealPlayer.
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click WSP Client
  2. Make sure that the server's NetBIOS name is displayed in the Server Name box.
  3. Click to select the Enable WinSock Proxy Client check box, and then click Update Now.
  4. When you are prompted to reboot the computer, do so. When the computer restarts, start RealPlayer G2.
  5. In RealPlayer, click Preferences on the Options menu.
  6. Click the Proxy tab. Click to clear the PNA Proxy and RTSP Proxy check boxes.
  7. Click the Transport tab, and then click Automatically select the most efficient transport.
  8. Click Auto Configure, and then click OK.
  9. When the automatic configuration process is finished, click OK.
