How to Install the International Language Support Files

To install and enable the International Language Support files for Internet Explorer:

1. Connect to the Internet.
2. Click Start, and then click Windows Update.
   
   -or-
   
   Go to the following Web page:

   http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

3. Click the Product Updates link.
4. If you are prompted to install the Microsoft System Information component, click Yes.
5. In the Internet Explorer Components list, click the Japanese Language Support component, or click both Chinese Language Support components.
6. After you click the components that you want, click Download, and then click Start Download.

The International Language Support files are downloaded and are installed automatically. You must restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

How to Enable Japanese and Chinese Content in Internet Explorer

1. Start Internet Explorer.
2. On the View menu, click Internet Options.
3. On the General tab, click Languages.
4. In the Language Preference dialog box, click Add.
5. Click the language that you want, and then click OK.
   
   NOTE: Five different encoding methods are used to process Chinese characters. You must choose the appropriate encoding method for your situation. If you are not sure which method to use, you can click all five methods because Internet Explorer automatically chooses the appropriate version from the message. Three different encoding methods are used to process Japanese characters. All three encoding methods are processed automatically.
6. In the Language Preference dialog box, click OK.
7. In the Internet Options dialog box, click OK.

To read Japanese or Chinese in Outlook 98, the e-mail message sender must send the e-mail message in HTML. When you open the message, the Japanese or Chinese language support files from Internet Explorer can translate the e-mail message into the language that you want.
