IIS May Generate Access Violation for Certain HTTP Requests (256093)

SYMPTOMS

Internet Information Services (IIS) may generate an Access Violation error message in the Inetinfo.exe process if certain characters are present in a certain position of the HTTP-request header. The Inetinfo.exe process is automatically restarted if an Access Violation error message occurs in it.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

NOTE: To view the version number, right-click the file in Windows Explorer, click Properties, and then click the Version tab.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 1.
