This article describes how to determine whether you are sending unintended text with your e-mail messages, either with your signature text or in your stationery.

When you create a new message in Outlook Express, there are templates that you can use to customize the new message. If there is text or formatting in new messages that you want to change or remove, examine the current signature and stationery that you are using.

Determine If You Are Using a Signature

  1. On the Tools menu, click Stationery, and then click the Signature tab.

    For Outlook Express 5, click Options on the Tools menu, and then click the Signatures tab.
  2. Check to see if any signatures are being added to all outgoing messages. If you want to add a signature, verify that your signature information in the Signatures box is correct. If you do not want to add a signature, click to clear the Add signatures to all outgoing messages check box.
  3. Click OK, click Apply, and then click OK.

Determine If You Are Using Stationery

  1. On the Tools menu, click Stationery.

    For Outlook Express 5, click Options on the Tools menu, and then click the Compose tab.
  2. Check to determine if any custom stationery is being used to create new messages. Click to clear the check box in the Stationery section for mail and/or news if you want to disable custom stationery.
  3. Click Apply, and then click OK.
