The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
This article was previously published under Q255781 SYMPTOMS
Running the Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 WINS Manager tool on Windows 2000 causes application errors and Dr. Watson error messages.
CAUSE
The Winsrpc.dll file is updated in Windows 2000 and conflicts with the version from Windows NT 4.0. When Winsadmn.exe runs, it finds a conflict in the dynamic-link library (DLL).
RESOLUTION
Use Windows 2000 Microsoft Management Console (MMC) to control the Windows NT 4.0 server.
Or, copy WINS Manager and the appropriate DLLs from the Windows NT 4.0 CD-ROM to a new folder and then run the tool only from that location to prevent the tool from finding the wrong DLL in the path.
The required files are:
Ipadrdll.dll
Winsadmn.hlp
Winsadmn.cnt
Winsrpc.dll
Winsadmn.exe
