  • Microsoft Excel 2000

This article was previously published under Q255539

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel 2000, when you attempt to select a printer in the Print dialog box, some printer names may not appear in the Name list. However, the same printers do appear in the Print dialog box of other programs.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the printer name in the Win.ini file contains certain characters such as "[" or "]" (without the quotation marks).

WORKAROUND

Change the printer name in the Win.ini file so that it does not contain "[" or "]" characters.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

Some communication software may create entries in the Win.ini file for redirected printers and give those printers names that include characters that are not recognized correctly by Excel 2000.
