BUG: You receive an"Osa9.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows" error message when you click New Office Document in Windows 2000 (254864)

SYMPTOMS

When you click New Office Document on the Start menu, you receive the following error message:
Osa9.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows.
You will need to restart the program.

An error log is being created.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when both of the following conditions are true:
  • You upgraded to Microsoft Windows 2000 from Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98.

    -and-

  • Microsoft Office 2000 was installed on your computer when you upgraded to Windows 2000.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1/SR-1a.
