Visio2000: In Visio 2000, the VML Filters Have Replaced the DWF Filters (254695)

When you export a Visio drawing, it passes through a filter that converts the drawing to a non-Visio format. Visio 5.0x included a DWF (Drawing Web Format) filter to provide a way to pan and zoom a drawing in a Web browser. Rather than include an updated DWF filter, Visio 2000 includes a new Web-based VML (Vector Markup Language) filter, which replaces the outdated DWF filter.

The VML filter contains the pan and zoom functionality that the DWF filter had.

Over the lifecycle of Visio 5.0, the DWF filter became outdated as new versions of the WHIP! Viewer (the application used to view DWF files) became available. The DWF filter created files for WHIP! 2.0, while the latest version of the viewer was WHIP! 4.0. Consequently, exported drawings were not always displayed properly. Rather than distribute the outdated filter with Visio 2000, it was replaced with the VML filter.
