WD2000: Paragraph Marks Are Lost or Characters Are Cut Off When Recipient Opens Your E-mail Message (252665)

SYMPTOMS

When a recipient opens your e-mail message, paragraph marks in the message may be lost, the text is run together, or the first few characters of each paragraph may be cut off.

This problem occurs when all of the following conditions are true:
  • You are using Microsoft Word 2000, Service Release 1 (SR-1).

    -and-
  • You use Microsoft Word to edit your e-mail messages.

    -and-
  • You send e-mail messages as HTML or Microsoft Outlook Rich Text.

    -and-
  • You use the Blank, Clear Day, Glacier, or Pie Charts stationery.
NOTE: If you send an e-mail message in HTML, paragraph marks are lost when the recipient opens your message.

If you send an e-mail message in Microsoft Outlook Rich Text, the first few characters are cut off when the recipient opens your message.

WORKAROUND

Use the matching e-mail theme rather than the stationery file. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. In Microsoft Outlook, click to select your Inbox.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  3. On the Mail Format tab, click to select the Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail message check box. Change the Send in this message format box to either HTML or Microsoft Outlook Rich Text.
  4. Click OK to close the Options dialog box.
  5. On the File menu, point to New and then click Mail Message.
  6. In your new mail message, click Options on the Tools menu.
  7. On the General tab, click E-mail Options.
  8. On the Personal Stationery tab, click Theme.
  9. In the Choose a Theme list, click to select the theme you want to use.

    For example, click to select Glacier. Near the top of the Theme or Stationery dialog box, to the right of Choose a Theme, a description of the item that you selected should appear.

    If you select Glacier, the description should display either Sample of stationery Glacier or Sample of theme Glacier. Make sure you select the theme.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
