XADM: Cannot Change Names of Custom Attributes (252393)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
This article was previously published under Q252393 SUMMARY
When you view Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server objects through either the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) System Manager or Users and Computers snap-ins, you can see custom attributes by clicking the Exchange Advanced tab. Although the Custom Attributes fields can be populated, the names of the attributes do not change.
MORE INFORMATION
This behavior is by design. Custom attributes in Exchange 2000 are included for backwards compatibility issues with Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5. Therefore, if replication with Exchange Server 5.5 is taking place, the default names of the custom attributes may be changed. To create modifiable custom attributes, extend the Microsoft Windows 2000 schema by using the ADSIEdit utility, which is found in the Windows 2000 Resource Kit.
