SYMPTOMS

A POSIX-based program may leak Private Bytes and Non Paged Pool Bytes if the parent process uses the fork() function.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if the computer was not properly decrementing the process's Pool and Non-Paged Pool quota when the child process exited.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem.
