SYMPTOMS

If you lose contact with the Microsoft Windows 2000 domain controller during a backup or restore of Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server, the backup and restore program may terminate unexpectedly.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when the backup and restore program lacks the functionality to handle this error state.

RESOLUTION

Re-establish contact with the domain controller, and then begin the backup or restore process from the beginning, to avoid loss of data.
