SYMPTOMS

If you upgrade your operating system from Microsoft Windows 98 to Microsoft Windows 2000, and then attempt to start Outlook, Detect and Repair may start and then fail to complete successfully with the following error messages
Outlook repair unsuccessful.

followed by:

Unable to boot Outlook, wrong Mapi32.dll.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1/SR-1a.

MORE INFORMATION

This problem occurs the first time you attempt to start Outlook following a Windows upgrade. The second time you attempt to start Outlook however, Detect and Repair is successful.
